Where to begin?
Sometimes you just have start.
I have wanted to start writing something in this space for ages. But I haven’t been able to settle on exactly what. Substack seems like a place of focus. Where people write about their very specific niche area of expertise or interest.
What I sometimes want to write about is my current professional areas of expertise: school counseling and mental health and education. Each of those topics alone contain more than enough to fill this space indefinitely. Not to mention the sub-topics like college access and public education broadly and why are kids so anxious today.
Sometimes what I want to write about is politics and social justice. I want to speak out loudly against the actions of ICE in our communitities, about the disaster that is our current international relations, and so many other really important political happenings.
I want to talk about trans and other LGBTQ+ issues. Including the politics and social justice aspects, but also the joys and day-to-day experiences of being queer. I want to share my love of gay bars and examine the impact they have on the queer community.
Sometimes I just want to dive into why I love tarot. How the heck can a few images span across years and cultures the way that these cards do? They’re used in spirituality, in divination, in self-reflection, and in secular ways. Some of the artwork is stunning, some downright off-putting. But it continues to fascinate me.
Those are just a few of the major things that I want to explore. So, it appears I just don’t have a niche area I want to write about. While I ponder what to call this space that doesn’t have one singular focus, I guess I’ll just write about the world as I see it, and go from there. Because lately I’ve felt like I have a lot to say.
